Just a simple method I use to find iron, diamond and gold in Minecraft. It works best if you're wearing a headset so you can better hear the direction of the monsters through the walls, or underground waterfalls flowing in the distance. Once you hear it, turn in the direction of the sound and start digging! Several people have come to me complaining that they just can't find mines,and that there just aren't any caves near them, and that's just not the case, it just requires a bit of work to find them is all. While this isn't the most visually appealing method, it works wonders and I've yet to have it fail me. Sure, sometimes you'll come up empty-handed and hit the bottom of the map, but that's when you start digging back up in another direction! Keep mining!
